Wishful Wednesday: Palm Prints

I feel like one of the hottest summer trends this year is the palm print. It's an easy way to add some color into your wardrobe and makes everyone think of a nice tropical vacation. For today's Wishful Wednesday post I gathered some of my favorite palm print pieces that are available in stores at the moment.

These pants are too fun! I love how they are paired with the black top and shoes to help keep the focus on the pants. This would be such a fun outfit for a night out.

I have a love/hate relationship with rompers and playsuits. I love how they look on everyone else but hate how they look on me. The print and off the shoulders top are a winning combo though if you ask me.

I'm obsessed with the coordinate trend that's big at the moment. While this isn't exactly what I'm looking for it looks so airy and beachy thanks to the great palm print. Also, I like how they opted for blues rather than sticking to the traditional green.

Everything about this dress screams perfection; the cut of the top, color, pattern, and the asymmetric hemline. I would love to wear this number to dinner while on a tropical vacation.

The pops of pink in the background of the dress really make the whole thing pop. I love a nice loose dress for the summer so this one is right up my alley. Not to mention it had great cross detail in the back!

While this dress leans towards the simple side I am loving how the print stays towards the right of the dress and adds some interest. The contrast if the green print against the white dress is very eye catching yet still subtle.

I love a good sheath dress, and the fun print yet understated colors make this one perfect for all sorts of occasions. I can picture this easily transitioning from day to night with the help of some fun shoes and accessories.

What I Wore: StyleWeek SWIM

Back in March I had posted a recap of the twelfth season of StyleWeek, a company that I interned for. A few weekends ago we had our last show that will take place for a while, StyleWeek SWIM. It was my fourth show with the company and it was just as exciting as any of the others. Unlike the regular StyleWeek shows which last a week, SWIM is a one-day event that takes place on the rooftop of the Providence G. The designers featured for the event were Elan Rose, GypsetGirl, Jeffrey Dickerson, La Fille Colette, Jess Abernethy, and Jonathan Joseph Peters.

For the past three seasons I wore outfits consisting of almost all black for every single show. It started off that I was required to wear black as an intern, but eventually I just found myself getting into the habit. It was so easy to find an all black outfit to wear, and in the end I was so busy helping make sure things ran smoothly that I wasn't too worried with what exactly I was wearing. For SWIM though I decided that I needed something colorful since the collections being shown were resort 2016.

I've been really loving the cobalt blue color at the moment, so I was thrilled when I found this dress {similar} for the occasion. While in the store I found these great Tahari nude pumps on sale {similar} and figured they would go look great with the outfit. For accessories I added my Kent Stetson Calypso Clutch and some gold dangle earrings {similar}. I am so happy with how the overall look came out. The cut of the dress made me feel very sophisticated and I felt so confident wearing it.

I would also like to give a special thank you to my beautiful mom for attending! I was so happy that she was able to come and experience what exactly StyleWeek is. She also played the part of blog photographer for me, taking pictures during the shows and of my outfit. I've included a few pictures she was able to snap of some of the models below.

Everyday Makeup Routine

Through my makeup inventory {face, eyes, and lips} and project pan posts you may have figured out that I'm a bit of a makeup and beauty fanatic. While I have quite the selection of products, there are a few things that I use daily to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

My everyday makeup routine starts with my favorite foundation. I've always been a fan of Almay foundations, but this Almay Wake Up Foundation has been repurchased multiple times. Previously i've applied it with a beauty blender dupe from Real Techniques, but I recently discovered this elf Ultimate Blending Brush and haven't used a sponge to apply my foundation since. It blends everything together so quickly but still leaves my face looking flawless.

Next I use the same brush to apply a mix of the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Concealer to cover up any blemishes and dark circles that I may have. Immediately after I finish blending in the concealer I set my under eye area to avoid any creasing that could occur. On a typical day I will use the elf High Definition Undereye Settting Powder but if I know that I have a long day ahead I will bake my underlies with my Maybelline Loose Powder.

Once everything has been set i'll move onto blush and bronzer. My favorite bronzer of all time is the Wet n Wild Bronzer in Ticket to Brazil. It may look really dark in the pan, but it's the perfect shade for a fair-skinned girl like myself. Lately i've been really enjoying this cream blush, the Maybelline Dream Bouncy in Rose Petal, because it is the perfect color and formula for the summer months.

I always begin my eyes by by filling in my brows with the elf Eyebrow Kit in medium. The wax portion of this kit is amazing and makes my brows look natural yet defined. Even though the wax holds my brow hairs in place fairly well I usually set them with the NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel for extra hold.

Then it's time to play around with eyeshadow. Depending on the mood I am in that day I may add more or less to the look. My two everyday palettes are the Wet n Wild Trio in Walking on Eggshells {the shimmery pink color is stunning} and the Smashbox Double Exposure Travel Palette. I like to use the matte brown from the Smashbox palette in the crease and then put the pink shade from the Wet n Wild trio all over the lid.

Finally i'll add a little bit of the Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in black fever and i'll top it all off with my sample of BareMinerals Lash Domination Mascara.

What does your everyday makeup routine look like?

#TECHSTYLE At The Museum of Fine Arts

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of taking a trip to Boston with my mom. This summer is the first that we will not be going on a family vacation, and due to my work/internship/classes schedule there isn't a whole lot of time for me to get away for a weekend, so when my sister had to be picked up in Boston we decided to head up a day early to get some sight seeing done!

In under 48 hours we were able to do a lot of fun things that I had planned for my mom and I. One of them was to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I saw the museum online and knew that it would be a perfect place for us to go. My mom has always loved taking us to museums, and i'm starting to really appreciate visiting them more. Besides being the fourth largest museum in the United States {they have over 450,000 works of art} I had an extra special reason for wanting to visit; the #techstyle exhibit that was going on. The exhibit is going on from March 6 until July 10 and is all about "the art of innovation in fashion".

While I always knew that technology and innovation played a huge part in shaping the fashion industry, this exhibit really opened my eyes to the amazing things going on in fashion.

When you walked into the exhibit you were met with a line of pieces going horizontally down the hallway. The two pieces that immediately caught my eye were the silk digitally printed dress {designer was not listed} and the Alexander McQueen "Alien" Shoes. The shoes were one of my favorite pieces in the exhibit because they were so unique and intricate. The shoes are  3D-printed resin that were made based on the special-effects that were done in the film Alien {1980}.

Iris van Herpen and Neri Oxman of MIT Media Lab's worked together to create this piece which was the first 3D printed garment to be made of both hard and soft materials. The texture on this dress was incredible to see up close. There was so much detail that I cannot imagine this pieces being created through the use of a printer.

Mary Katranktzou used digital printing to aid the creation of this colorful piece. It was amazing how vibrant the colors and patterns were when you looked up close. The silhouette is also very reminiscent of classic Asian dress, something that I find very sophisticated.

This leather jacket by Elvira 't Hart was anther favorite piece of mine. She used both computer-aided design and laser technology to help transform her sketches into their 3D forms. I think one of the reasons I liked this jacket so much was that I could picture it being worn by so many different people in so many different scenarios. It's a great twist on a classic piece.

The scale-like layers on this bodice were created by Manish Arora through the use of a laser cutter. There was a lot of intricate details that went into this piece and making sure that the "scales" were layered correctly to create a 3D shape.

This piece was from the Viktor & Rolf Haute Couture "Wearable Art" collection. The collection {which was one of many runway shows being shown on a wall in the gallery} showed how the model would wear the dress down the runway and then moments after would be taken off and transformed into a framed masterpiece placed on the back wall of the runway.

Another {amazing} example of 3D printing are these two pairs of shoes. The first pair are the "Molecule Shoes" which are done by Francis Bitonti in collaboration with Adobe and Stratasys Ltd. They are based on the "Game of Life" and are meant to show growth. The second are "Highrise Shoes" done by United Nude. This pair of shoes are meant to resemble a model of a building to scale. This specific pair reminds me of something that Lady GaGa would wear in one of her earlier music videos.

CuteCircuit's MFA Dress shows how fashion and electronics are able to work together. The dress is synched to a touch screen which allows the user to choose a pattern that will be flashed across thousands of MicroLEDs that are embedded in the dress. It was pretty cool pushing buttons for different patterns designs and seeing the dress immediately light up with the result.

"The Spike" Artificial Leg by Viktoria Modesta and others was a very interesting piece. This was shown through the video "Prototype" being played on a screen. The film showed the designer and pop artist, Modesta who had a leg amputation in 2007 using "The Spike". She is working with groups such as the Body Mechatronics group and the MIT Media Lab to work towards "pushing boundaries related to concepts of the body".

Overall the exhibit was extremely fascinating. If you are in the Boston area I highly recommend spending some time looking at the #techstyle exhibit and wandering throughout the rest of the museum. It was a great experience and really got me thinking about the new innovations that are involved with garment production.

How I Made Money Selling Old Textbooks

This summer I noticed that almost an entire shelf on my bookshelf has been taken over by old textbooks. Now i'm not sure if it was the fact that I was super excited to be in college or that I loved my classes, but for some reason I felt like it was necessary to keep all of my fashion and accounting textbooks {minus one or two where I was able to rent them for cheaper}. I expected to be referencing them a lot and flipping back through my fashion books because some of them are just so nice to look at! While that didn't happen with most of my books, I still kept hoarding them on my bookshelf.

Fast forward two more years of school and I've reached the point where I can't wait to sell my books back at the end of the trimester to get a little bit of money back into my pocket. Yet for some reason all those freshman year books still remained sitting on the bookshelf. I'm not sure why I didn't do it sooner, but this summer I decided that it was time to get rid of them and hopefully make a little cash in the process.

I put off the task for a few days because I figured the process would be quite annoying. I figured that I would have to put each ISBN I'm separately on various different websites in order to find who would give me the most money, basically I expected it to take more time than it should. That's why I am so happy that I found BookFinder. They made the process so easy- all I had to do was enter all of the ISBN numbers of the books I was looking to sell on a single screen, then the system compared the prices that were offered from different textbook resellers such as Amazon, Chegg, and AbeBooks. This way I could compare all prices on a single webpage. I also found it helpful that the website told you whether the company was offering you cash or a gift card for your books, although Amazon was the only one that gave gift cards.

In the end I was able to sell every book I wanted to, and I made over $100! While it's nowhere near the amount I spent on these books in the first place, I'm happy to get them out of my room and make some money at the same time. If you ever need to sell some old books I highly recommend using them!

May Recap and June Blogging Goals

May was the first month that I kept a written list of goals for both my blog and my brand {I feel so silly saying that, but I really am trying to build a brand for In An Organized Fashion}. I had debated on making a post regarding them, but ended up deciding against it.

After a month I was able to hit four of my eight goals... Not too shabby for my first time trying this out. This month I decided to hold myself accountable and create a new post that will go up monthly. I'll be reviewing my goals and how I did for May as well as sharing my posts from the month. I will also then be setting my June goals!  I think doing this will be a fun way to hold myself accountable and also track numbers so that I can compare them in the future.

Now onto the goals I had set for May {keep in mind that this blog was only started four months ago so the numbers I hope to reach are still on the smaller side!}

Post twice a week on the blog

Instagram and Pinterest were the only two platforms I wasn't able to gain the amount of followers I was hoping for. I also didn't pay as much attention to both of these as I should have...

What I failed miserably at was consistently posting twice a week. I had created these goals a few weeks before finals week, so clearly I hadn't thought this through. With the pressure of studying for tests, packing up, and moving home I didn't post nearly as much as I would have liked to. This will just be something to work on next month!

Even though May wasn't the best month for me post wise, I still had a great month! I got some great posts up on the blog and Instagram that i'll roundup. You'll recognize this picture if you follow me on Instagram {and if you don't, go follow me}.

I added a bit more to this months goals and really want to focus on posting consistently; both to the blog and its social media accounts. I know that if I want to grow this blog I need to work on being more consistent and providing quality content to my readers!

Wishful Wednesday: Melissa Shoes

I recently discovered the Melissa shoe brand thanks to a new summer job. I immediately noticed how adorable the shoes were, and was then shocked to learn that this company has been a pioneer in the jelly shoes industry {talk about a flashback}! The shoes are all hypoallergenic and are 100% recyclable, not to mention each one is scented like bubble gum! The company has worked on collaborations with various high profile talent such as Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood, Jason Wu, Jeremy Scott, and more.

If I could only have one pair of shoes from this company it would probably be these. I can picture so many different ways to wear these; both casual and a bit more dressed up. {They come in quite a few other colors including a gorgeous pastel pink}. The thick straps by the toes and the cute ankle strap are great, plus the heel is just chunky enough that it's both comfortable and cute

I'm a big fan of wedges and believe You can never have enough pairs! These are a great staple item because they are a classic style with some fun detail thanks to the adorable bow on the front. Whenever I see bows on anything I immediately am reminded of Kate Spade {which i love}.The peep toe also adds a nice effect and helps break the shoe up.

This would be the perfect everyday sandal! The colors are perfect because it would match just about everything. Plus I find the bow detail adorable, like I mentioned above bows remind me of Kate Spade! I know that I personally would wear this shoe constantly- so easy to slip on and head out the door. {Check out the fun pink and orange combo the shoe comes in as well!}

This season it seems like tassels are everywhere, and it's a trend that i'm loving! It's such a fun way to spice up a simple shoe or piece of clothing. Like the Melissa Garota this is a slip on and go type of sandal. I love it and could picture it being worn with so many different looks- everything from jeans to a sundress.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the tortoiseshell print. This shoe is different from anything I've really seen this season. The print with the black and the gold adds a great contrast and creates a shoe that can hold its own. I'd love to throw these on with my favorite black t-shirt dress for a cute and comfy look.
