Working Towards Minimalism

Lately i've been into reading about the concept of "minimalist living", which is basically trying to cut down on all of the "things" that we accumulate in life. For those people who know me personally they know that in no way am I living minimally. I have tons of stuff and I love having my stuff! I like having options for what jewelry i'm going to wear, or which clutch i'm going to use for a night out. Lately i've just realized that maybe I don't need quite as much as I have. It's possible to have lots of options without having an overwhelming amount of clutter.

A goal of mine is to work my way towards a slightly more minimal lifestyle. My goal is to have a collection items that I truly love and enjoy wearing or using. I don't want to put a specific number on the amount of items I can have. I just want to make sure that the things I own are getting the attention and love they deserve.

I feel like my project pans are one way that I am working towards this. Focusing on certain products and using them up is really showing me what type of beauty products I like and what I don't. I'm also realizing how long it takes me to use something and seeing that maybe I don't really need 3 different foundations open at one time {whoops}. I've also avoided going to the mall whenever I feel bored. I've noticed that when I spend time aimlessly wandering throughout shops i'm more likely to purchase things that I don't need and usually don't end up wearing enough.

The blogger who really peaked my interest on this subject was Caroline of Un-Fancy. She started her blog in 2014 when she created a capsule wardrobe to help control her shopping habits. Her capsule wardrobe included only 37 seasonal pieces, and she used her blog to journal her way through the year.

She no longer follows the strict rules of a capsule wardrobe, but she still keeps her closet to a reasonable size and truly embraces the idea of "minimalist living".

I've also recently discovered Anuschka of Into Mind and am really enjoying her site. She posts a lot about how to work towards a smaller wardrobe that is perfect for your personal needs. Can't wait to read more from her!

Hit or Miss: Beyonce's Ivy Park Collection

I'm a huge fan of the "athleisure" trend that's popular at the moment. Mainly because it means I can go to class feeling comfortable but not like a total bum {hello running spandex and nikes}. Beyonce recently released her new athleisure line, Ivy Park after some great promotional videos were released. The line is sold worldwide, but in the U.S. it can be found at Nordstrom and TopShop stores.

The Ivy Park line has just over 100 items with a price range of $14 to $265 {Just as a warning, you won't be able to get anything except a hat for under $25}. The overall color selection is mostly black and white but there are some colorful coral and cobalt blue pieces thrown in there. I think they did an excellent job with the color selection. The black and white makes the line look very sleek, and the colors they chose are perfect for the upcoming summer.

In general I think the reason that I liked this line is because it reminds me of some of my favorite Nike piece. Although if i'm being honest, i'd rather have the NIKE logo written on my clothing than IVY PARK.

Overall, i'd say that this line wasn't a complete hit but it certainly wasn't a miss. I've attached a few of my favorite items below, make sure to check them out!

Manus x Machina: Who Did It Best

The first Monday of May is one of the most exciting nights in fashion, the Met Gala. While I know this post is a little overdue, I still wanted to share some of my favorite (and not...) looks from the night. This years exhibit was "Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age of Technology" which had the red carpet filled with futuristic looks featuring lots of metallics and sequins.

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger- I feel like Gigi was able to capture the essence of the exhibit while still looking chic. The metal on the bodice ties into the futuristic look while the sheer overlay and muted color help keep the look from going over the top. Also, can we admire that neckline!

Naomi Campbell in Roberto Cavalli Couture- Cutouts were heavily seen on the red carpet at this event, and Naomi was able to pull it off effortlessly. While this normally could seem like a lot of skin to be showing, I think the dark colors of the dress help make it seem less daring. The intricate beading is stunning and I love the silhouette on her.

Nina Dobrev in Marchesa- While Nina did not go for a futuristic look I still think everything about this dress is amazing. She looks so elegant and the detailing on this dress is stunning.

While there were many looks that looked great on the red carpet, there were a few that left me wondering why. The standout one for me was Kanye West wearing Fear of God. I don't know what shocked me more with this outfit, the crystal denim jacket or the ripped jeans on the red carpet. While I understand wanting to make a statement, I don't think this made the right one! Not to mention there is sparkle overload when he stand next to Kim in that Balmain dress...
