Wishful Wednesday: A Touch of Velvet

For this Wishful Wednesday post I plan on trying something a little different. Instead of the usual format where I list the pictures and do a little explanation I have created a widget so that you can scroll through all the different pieces i'm wishing for.

The 90's are back in full force with everything from scrunchies to chokers and even velvet. While it took me a while to get on board with this last one i'm loving the little touches of it that can easily add something to an outfit. For today's post I picked my favorite simple pieces that will help add that 90's vibe to your outfit without looking like you stepped out of a time machine.

What is your favorite way to add a touch of velvet to your outfit?

I'd love to know what you think about this format in comparison to past Wishful Wednesday posts. I appreciate your comments!

Wishful Wednesday: Distressed Denim

Denim is such a classic piece that i'm always looking for new ways to make it fun and a little different. That's where the trend of distressed denim comes into play. Now i've been a fan of distressed jeans for a few months now but i'm also loving the distressed denim jackets that i've been seeing all over Pinterest and Instagram. With fall {and winter} quickly approaching I think these pieces are perfect for pairing with cozy knits and riding boots.

For this weeks Wishful Wednesday post I did something a little new. I feel like I repeat myself so much under each picture that I decided to skip over the explanation for each picture and simply link the item. I'd love to get some feedback on whether you liked this format better or preferred when there was an explanation underneath each picture detailing why I love it.

Wishful Wednesday: Utility-Inspired Jackets

Wow it's been a long time since I last wrote a Wishful Wednesday post {or any post for that matter...}! It's been a lot harder than I thought adjusting to my new class schedule so I apologize for the lack of posts recently. I'm working on pre-writing a bunch so that I can be prepared for days or weeks where I feel overwhelmed.

Anyway! A trend i've been loving since last year has been the utility inspired jackets. Maybe it's because I love this muted olive green but I can't help but look for this style jacket every time I go shopping. There are so many takes on this look {sleeveless, camo, parka...} and I love them all! Check out a few of my favorites below.

I love this caramel color that Gap offers in the utility jacket because it's a great autumn neutral that is a bit different from the popular olive color. The shoulder tabs are such a fun detail that make me think of not only utility jackets but military-inspired ones as well. I think this would look great with a striped long sleeve tee and some booties for a comfy fall day.

If you are looking for something that is a little different than the traditional utility jacket then I think this Free People option is for you. Not only does it come in the classic olive green but it is available in camo and maroon as well. I personally love the fun pattern that the camo adds, it would look great with something as simple as a white tee and your favorite pair of jeans.

When I think of a utility jacket this is exactly the style I picture in my mind. It is very classic and does not have a lot of added details or frills which makes it a timeless piece. This would be a great jacket to invest in because not only does it come in regular and petite sizes but it is machine washable and can be put in the dryer.

While most of the jackets I looked at have a drawstring waist something about the way this once cinches looks super flattering on the model. It may just be the angle the picture is taken at but I can't help but want to try it on because of that. For someone who gets lost in jackets easily this added detail can make a huge difference.

Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere always finds a way to turn classic pieces into something on trend yet still very wearable. All summer I was noticing the sleeveless vests and dusters so I am so excited to see that she released a utility vest. I love a good vest {puffer vests and sweatshirts are my go-to library outfits} and think this would be a great piece to add to your closet because not only will it work for fall but you can make it work for the transition into spring as well!

This particular jacket looks a bit different from the others that I have rounded up but there is something about it that I love! I'm not sure how it would look zipped up because there is no picture on the website but the way it lays when open is enough to make me want to include it here.

This jacket is fleece lined... need I say more? If you are looking for a great quality piece with a lifetime satisfaction guarantee then this is the perfect one to pick up {it is also less expensive than a lot of other options on the market}. If you aren't looking for something quite so heavy they also carry an un-lined version.

At only $40 this is the least expensive option on this list. Now we all know that Forever 21's quality isn't the best but if you are looking for a jacket to wear for a season {maybe two} then this is a great option to look into. I really like the fact that it has a hood because I constantly find myself wearing my hood during the late autumn days thanks to the horrible wind we have in Providence.

Which jacket is your favorite? If you have a utility-inspired jacket where did you purchase it from?

Wishful Wednesday: Cupcakes and Cashmere

Before I started blogging I had heard of the Cupcakes and Cashmere brand once or twice. I knew they had cute clothes and that it was somehow connected to a blogger. After I began my journey into blogging I began reading up on Emily's {the creator of Cupcakes and Cashmere} blog. You could say I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the boutique I am working at this summer sells pieces from the Cupcakes and Cashmere line!

I love how all of the pieces in the collection are classic and preppy yet still very trendy. While you can find the line various places {like local boutiques!} the two easiest places to shop Cupcakes and Cashmere online are ShopBop and Nordstrom. I was very surprised to see that both website offer a different selection of merchandise! Not sure if this is on purpose or it just so happens that certain items were sold out. Either way there is such a large selection and I highly recommend checking out both sites.

ShopBop Picks

Lari Draped Vegan Leather Jacket
While I personally have never been a huge leather jacket kind of girl I think that I would LOVE this one. My problem with most leather jackets are that I don't feel feminine enough in them. That's why I love the shape of this one, it is such a unique silhouette yet is also very classic and feminine. It would look great with virtually any outfit and could be worn for years to come.

Jakob Jacquard Blazer
This isn't something I would ever think I would like, and at first I wasn't even going to include it on this list. However once I was putting this post together I kept thinking back to this blazer. It's unlike anything i've seen and looks wonderful with the all white outfit the model is wearing. It's not something that would be worn a lot because it's so memorable, but it's still a great statement piece.

Lulu Off Shoulder Ruffle Dress
I've been loving the ruffle and off the shoulder trends that have been big this summer. While I love the look that these trends add to a shirt it's too hot in the summer and I find myself leaning towards dresses everyday. I've also noticed that the ruffles tend to be very large and overdramatic, and that's not a look that works for me on a daily basis. That's why I love this particular piece because it had all the things I want in one beautiful and feminine dress.

Elliot Stripe Dress
Stripes are such a classic pattern and i've been really loving them lately. This dress puts such a fun twist on them with the horizontal stripes in the front and vertical ones on the side. The halter neckline is also great for the warmer months but looks great under a denim jacket making this dress a great transitional piece.

Recently I picked up my first jumpsuit and I have fallen in low with how easy they are to wear. This one is such a staple piece that it can easily be worn for so many occasions. Throw on some great jewelry and heels for a night out or dress it down with sandals and a denim jacket. I've been loving the halter neckline and it helps break this outfit up by showing some shoulder.

Nordstrom Picks

Zeus Swing Dress
A white swing dress with tassel details? Yes please! The swing dress is such a comfortable and flattering style {I love it because I can eat as much as I want and nobody can tell!}. The embroidery and tassels in the back are great because they help make this dress on trend with everything that we have been seeing this summer.

Sara Long Vest
I've been seeing these sleeveless vests all over the place and am loving the look they give off, it is so chic. This one is the perfect piece to help add interest to an all black outfit like what is shown on the model above. Add a statement necklace and you are good to go! Once it gets a little colder out you could even wear it over a long sleeve shirt or turtleneck for a different look.

Cameron Mosaic Print Romper
Rompers have been everywhere for the past few months because they are the perfect summer staple. I haven't been able to find the perfect one yet {#picky} but the cutout detail in the back of this one has me in love. It's a great neutral pattern that will easily transition into fall, something that can be hard to do with all f the bright floral ones that are on the market.

Eleni Stripe Off the Shoulder Top
Lie I said earlier, I have really been loving the stripes! The off the shoulder trend is a major one this summer and I love the silhouette on this particular piece. It's a great semi-casual top that can be dressed up a little bit or worn in a super casual way. This would look adorable with white skinnies and some metallic slides.

As soon as the first sign of fall hits I live in nothing but cozy knit sweater and cardigans. My favorite ones are all gray so this one would fit into my closet perfectly! The cute pattern helps dress this sweater up and would make it look like I put some effort into my outfit even on lazy days. Pair this with jeggings and riding boots to get the perfect comfy outfit for a busy day of classes.

What is your favorite piece from the Cupcakes & Cashmere line?

Wishful Wednesday: Soludos

A few days ago I saw this amazing pair of shoes at a local boutique. After taking note of the brand I immediately ran home and started looking through their amazing collection of espadrilles and sandals. Needless to say I knew right away what this weeks Wishful Wednesday post would be on. The Solids brand creates shoes that are all so effortless yet chic at the same time, plus they are perfect for the summer months!

These are the ones that started it all! Quite honestly they are probably still my favorite pair from the
brand. The sand color makes them perfect for so many different outfits. Add them to all black for a quirky touch or use them to dress down a summer dress.

I've always been a huge fan of denim but lately i've found myself liking it in more unconventional ways, like these shoes! They're the perfect way to add some color and interest to an outfit. I would love to wear these with an all-white outfit!

The platform of this espadrille is perfect for this laser cutout style slipper. It adds the extra height that makes this shoe look similar to the popular slip on sneakers that have been popular lately. It's a nice summery way to try the trend out.

Platinum Slides.... need I say more? These are the perfect everyday shoe! The platinum allows them to work with virtually every outfit- all white, all black, and every color in-between.

Lace up and tassels... what more could you want in a sandal? I love the detailing on the thick leather strap because it helps add some additional color into the look. They would go perfect paired with a nice airy summer dress.

Again with the tassels! I like how simple and understated this pair is. There isn't too much going on yet the sandal still captures your attention. I could see this easily becoming a pair of shoes that I would wear numerous times throughout the summer.

Lately i've been loving the look of wedges, and these ones are just too cute! With the white lace and the tie up ribbon they are so feminine and could easily dress up a summer outfit. I would love to wear these to the Saratoga Race Track with an adorable sundress!

Last but not least we have these great smoking slippers! I love the adorable pictures and sayings that Soludo's puts on some of their shoes. This Oui Non combination is so cute and I love the navy color of the shoe.

Wishful Wednesday: Palm Prints

I feel like one of the hottest summer trends this year is the palm print. It's an easy way to add some color into your wardrobe and makes everyone think of a nice tropical vacation. For today's Wishful Wednesday post I gathered some of my favorite palm print pieces that are available in stores at the moment.

These pants are too fun! I love how they are paired with the black top and shoes to help keep the focus on the pants. This would be such a fun outfit for a night out.

I have a love/hate relationship with rompers and playsuits. I love how they look on everyone else but hate how they look on me. The print and off the shoulders top are a winning combo though if you ask me.

I'm obsessed with the coordinate trend that's big at the moment. While this isn't exactly what I'm looking for it looks so airy and beachy thanks to the great palm print. Also, I like how they opted for blues rather than sticking to the traditional green.

Everything about this dress screams perfection; the cut of the top, color, pattern, and the asymmetric hemline. I would love to wear this number to dinner while on a tropical vacation.

The pops of pink in the background of the dress really make the whole thing pop. I love a nice loose dress for the summer so this one is right up my alley. Not to mention it had great cross detail in the back!

While this dress leans towards the simple side I am loving how the print stays towards the right of the dress and adds some interest. The contrast if the green print against the white dress is very eye catching yet still subtle.

I love a good sheath dress, and the fun print yet understated colors make this one perfect for all sorts of occasions. I can picture this easily transitioning from day to night with the help of some fun shoes and accessories.

Wishful Wednesday: Melissa Shoes

I recently discovered the Melissa shoe brand thanks to a new summer job. I immediately noticed how adorable the shoes were, and was then shocked to learn that this company has been a pioneer in the jelly shoes industry {talk about a flashback}! The shoes are all hypoallergenic and are 100% recyclable, not to mention each one is scented like bubble gum! The company has worked on collaborations with various high profile talent such as Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood, Jason Wu, Jeremy Scott, and more.

If I could only have one pair of shoes from this company it would probably be these. I can picture so many different ways to wear these; both casual and a bit more dressed up. {They come in quite a few other colors including a gorgeous pastel pink}. The thick straps by the toes and the cute ankle strap are great, plus the heel is just chunky enough that it's both comfortable and cute

I'm a big fan of wedges and believe You can never have enough pairs! These are a great staple item because they are a classic style with some fun detail thanks to the adorable bow on the front. Whenever I see bows on anything I immediately am reminded of Kate Spade {which i love}.The peep toe also adds a nice effect and helps break the shoe up.

This would be the perfect everyday sandal! The colors are perfect because it would match just about everything. Plus I find the bow detail adorable, like I mentioned above bows remind me of Kate Spade! I know that I personally would wear this shoe constantly- so easy to slip on and head out the door. {Check out the fun pink and orange combo the shoe comes in as well!}

This season it seems like tassels are everywhere, and it's a trend that i'm loving! It's such a fun way to spice up a simple shoe or piece of clothing. Like the Melissa Garota this is a slip on and go type of sandal. I love it and could picture it being worn with so many different looks- everything from jeans to a sundress.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the tortoiseshell print. This shoe is different from anything I've really seen this season. The print with the black and the gold adds a great contrast and creates a shoe that can hold its own. I'd love to throw these on with my favorite black t-shirt dress for a cute and comfy look.
